1. Is Partners In Education (PIE) a program of Montgomery Public Schools?
Partners In Education is a separate 501 (c) 3 non-profit organization.  PIE is not a program of Montgomery Public Schools, however, all programs offered by the organization are in support of Montgomery Public Schools (MPS) students.  PIE is pleased to work directly with MPS staff and faculty in our mission to serve students. 
 
 2. What volunteer opportunities are available with Partners In Education?
There are several volunteer opportunities available, which include serving as a tutor or mentor, CHOICES presenter, forming a school partnership, or volunteering for special events to include the annual Golf Tournament and PIE Walk.   Volunteer opportunities may range from one hour per week to four to ten hours per month.
 
3. What is the process to become a PIE volunteer?
If you are volunteering as a mentor or tutor where there is one on one contact with students, you must complete and pass a criminal background clearance. For these programs, volunteers must attend an initial training session, complete and submit a volunteer application, provide references, and participate in a interview.  For the community based mentoring program, additional information is requested regarding automobile insurance and motor vehicle record.

4. How is PIE funded?
PIE is funded through donations, grants, and two annual fundraising events. In order to continue our efforts, financial support is essential to sustain our programs for years to come.  All donation amounts are greatly appreciated to support our mission.  You may donate on our website via PayPal or you may send donations to the PIE Office at Partners In Education 1153 S. Lawrence Street  Montgomery, Alabama 36104.  All donations are tax-deductible.  Funds are used to recruit and train volunteers, manage the programs, and evaluate our efforts.
 
5. Are there fees required for any of the programs?
All programs are offered at no cost to the student, parents, or teachers.  
 
6.  Can volunteers choose the school they wish to volunteer?
Volunteers may choose from participating elementary and middle/junior high schools that are conveniently located near their home or work. The choice depends on volunteer availability and interests, as well as the needs of the school.
 
7. When does training take place?
Mentor training takes places throughout the year during the day, evenings, and weekends.  Please see the calendar for upcoming dates. Tutor training is typically offered during the summer months to prepare for the school term that begins in August of each year. Training may also be offered on site for groups of 10 or more.
 
8. Who is a typical volunteer?
Volunteers range in age from college students to retirees.  Volunteers come from various professional and academic backgrounds.  Volunteers do not need to be an expert in any one field, and there are a variety of resources we offer to assist volunteers.. Many working professionals find the school based mentoring and tutoring to be a convenient volunteer opportunity for their schedule.
